On Friday, February 13th, MPs decided to refer the bill for further consideration to a special parliamentary committee, appointed at the request of the Polish People’s Party (PSL). This is the first government bill recognizing the existence of same-sex relationships to gain the support of a parliamentary majority The bill submitted to the vote replaced the government’s earlier proposal for a law on civil partnerships. KPH, along with other organizations, repeatedly pointed out that the first proposal provided very little security for partners in same-sex relationships. On October 15, 2023, driven by hope for change, we decided in record-breaking elections that power would go to a coalition of pro-democratic parties. The fate of the government’s bill on civil partnerships is hanging in the balance – but we have no doubt that internal adoption is an integral part of it. On Wednesday, June 26, a press conference on civil partnerships and internal adoption of children was held in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. The floor was taken by people who need these changes and are affected by them – rainbow families.
