The Crowns
The Crowns of Equality are considered the most important awards granted in Poland for advocacy for the LGBT+ community. The poll has been organised by KPH since 2019 in order to honour individuals and groups who have been particularly involved in the fight for equal rights for the LGBT+ community in a given year. The awards are given in eight categories: Social Engagement, Equal Treatment, Political Life, Law, Media, Internet People (from 2021), Cultural World (from 2023) and Business (from 2023). People participating in an online vote decide who will receive the statuettes. As part of the poll, special awards have also been presented by the KPH team from 2020 onwards.
-
Nominations
At the first stage of the poll the Selection Committee, which includes all members of KPH, chooses individuals and groups who ought to receive nominations to the Crowns of Equality awards. This phase lasts throughout the year and the Selection Committee closely follows all activities undertaken for the benefit of the LGBT+ people in order to select the most important ones with the largest impact on the change of social attitudes and legal circumstances, enhancing equality and visibility of the rainbow community.
-
Selection
In the second stage, the Poll Committee decides on the nominations, choosing 3 individuals, groups or institutions from every category. The Poll Committee consists of KPH Managing Director, two representatives of the Management Board and two winners of the previous edition of the poll.
-
Voting
The third stage of the poll is voting. In order to cast a valid vote, Internet users must choose one individual, group or institution from every poll category. The voting takes place via the website www.koronyrownosci.pl.
-
Announcement of the results
In the final stage of the poll, voting results are revealed. KPH announces the winners during a formal gala of the Crown of Equality poll.
